Nova Media has made a beta of launch2net version 2.0 for Ubuntu, available to download. Until now, the launch2net dial-up UMTS software has only been available for Mac OS X – among its licensees are T-Mobile, Vodafone and Sony Ericsson.

launch2net for Ubuntu Linux is a professional mobile Internet Connection Manager for Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 users and UMTS devices. launch2net will recognize your type of modem or ExpressCard as well as the SIM card and does not need intricate driver installations or configurations.

The clean GUI displays the most important information at a glance, like network information, signal strength, online time and data throuput.

Using launch2net, Ubuntu Linux users will use a connection wizard for accessing their internal or USB UMTS modems, cards and mobile phones.

The devices compatible with launch2net include HUAWEI E800 Data Card, HUAWEI E160 USB Stick, HUAWEI E220 and E270 HSDPA USB MODEM and others. For a list of compatible devices, visit the vendor's device page.

Please note that the beta version is freeware, but the final version will be available for an undetermined amount of money but it is said to be less than the Mac OSX version (which is available for around 50 euros).
