Ekiga is an open source SoftPhone, Video Conferencing and Instant Messenger application for Windows and Linux. It has some really amazing features such as HD sound quality and video up to DVD size and quality which make it an amazing IM software.
Besides the audio and video free calls through the internet, Ekiga also supports audio (and video) calls to landlines and cell phones with support to the cheapest service providers, SMS to cell phones if the service provider supports it and more.
Ekiga 3.2.7 was released a few days ago and I've been waiting for the developers to package it into a PPA but because this didn't happen for now, I backported the packages from Debian into the WebUpd8 PPA so you can now use the latest Ekiga 3.2.7 in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
This release comes after 9 months of work and even though it doesn't bring any new features, it fixes a lot of connectivity issues and other bugs. A complete list can be found HERE.
To install Ekiga 3.2.7 in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, use the following commands in a terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8 && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ekiga
Download Ekiga for other Linux distributions, source code and Windows binaries.
