Firstly, an introduction so you'll know what this is about:
- Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private network (VPN) application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases); in other words, it establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network.
- Haguichi provides a graphical frontend for Hamachi on Linux that integrates smoothly into your GNOME desktop.
A while back, Stephen Brandt, the Haguichi developer asked me to create a PPA for Haguichi and while Haguichi provides .deb files to download at its website, they are packaged using Checkinstall so the actual package wasn't debianized. Well, I finally managed to properly package Haguichi and I've uploaded it to a PPA of its own (currently available for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat), which you can add and then install Haguichi using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/haguichi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install haguichi
Since Haguichi obviously needs Hamachi, you'll have to install it. The latest version, "Hamachi 2" 2.0.0.12 is available as a beta version for Linux and comes with a .deb files so it's very easy to install. Download Hamachi 2 .deb
Important: Once you install Hamachi2, you'll have to log out and log back it or else Haguichi will not be able to connect to Hamachi2.
Once you've installed both Hamachi2 and Haguichi, you can finally open Haguichi by going to Applications > Internet > Haguichi.
