EiskaltDC++: Actively Developed Direct Connect (DC++) Client For Linux [Ubuntu PPA Available]

Everyone is probably still using the old Linuxdcpp for direct connect file sharing, and even though I see some activity on Launchpad, Linuxdcpp didn't get a new version in more than a year so you may want to try some alternatives. I for one really like Microdc2 but if you want a GUI for the job, you may want to give EiskaltDC++ a try.

EiskaltDC++ is a program for UNIX-like systems that uses the Direct Connect and ADC protocol. It is compatible with other DC clients, such as the original DC from Neomodus, DC++ and derivatives. EiskaltDC++ also interoperates with all common DC hub software.

EiskaltDC++ is under very active development and has all the features you would expect in a DC++ client.

Install EiskaltDC++ in Ubuntu

1. Add the Ubuntu PPA (for Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 only):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tehnick/tehnick

2. Install EiskaltDC++

EiskaltDC++ comes with 2 versions in the PPA: stable and unstable. EiskaltDC++ 2.0 stable was released on 22 March and the next version (2.0.1) will be released on April 18, but you can already use it by installing eiskaltdcpp-unstable.


I for one installed the unstable version but you can use whichever version you want:

stable:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install eiskaltdcpp

unstable:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install eiskaltdcpp-unstable 

If you're not using Ubuntu, you will find @ EiskaltDC Google Code page downloads for ArchLinux, Gentoo, Slakware, OpenSUSE, Fedora 10 and 12 and source files.
