Miro is a free/open source video player that automates subscribing to feeds of videos that are fetched down using Bittorrent and then played in a flexible player that supports practically every format. Miro works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
Miro 3.0 was released recently and it launches 150% times faster than previous versions, also torrents download quicker than ever thanks to under-the-hood retooling. It also comes new features such as: subtitles, play files with an external player and a lot more.
Install Miro 3.0.x in Ubuntu
The latest Miro version is 3.0.1 and was released yesterday. Before upgrading to Miro 3.0.1, a quick note from WebUpd8 reader Bruce Ingalls:
Miro 3.0.1 was released yesterday and is already availble in the Ubuntu Lucid official repositories so to install it, all you have to do is paste this in a terminal:
Ubuntu Karmic and Jaunty users will be very glad to know there is finally a PPA repository available for Miro 3.0.x. To add this PPA, use the following commands:
- Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic:
- Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty:
Then, for both Karmic and Jaunty, install Miro 3.0.x using the following command:

I personally had to delete my list of feeds from Miro v2.5.3 with "rm -fr ~/.miro". You've been warned!
