Today seems to be a very good day for GNOME photo managers. After Shotwell 0.5 release, gThumb got a really nice extension which many of you I'm sure have been waiting for. Read on!
The gThumb development is getting more and more interesting (if you constantly read WebUpd8, you already know about the great progress gThumb is making) and after getting PicasaWeb support about a month ago, a branch called "flickr" (well, actually "flicker" but that's a typo by the developers) has been merged, meaning gThumb will finally get Flickr support. We couldn't resist so we updated the package in our PPA to the latest GIT so you (and us) can enjoy this cool new feature.

gThumb 2.11.2.1 now also has a brand new "export-to-disk" extension which allows you to export photos to your CD/DVD-RW; basically gThumb is getting new features every day. Other older changes include a "convert format", a "change date" and "resize image" tools and a lot of other new features and plugins.
To enable the new Flickr plugin (after installing the latest gThumb photo manager 2.11.2.1-git - see below), go to Edit > Extensions, then check the "Flickr" extension. Then select a photo or multiple photos and go to File > Export to > Flickr. Unfortunately, Flickr import is not supported (well, for now anyway).
Install the latest gThumb (from GIT as of March 12, 2010) in Ubuntu Karmic and Lucid
Before installing, please remember that the WebUpd8 PPA publishes some experimental packages (from GIT, SVN, etc.) like VLC 1.1.0, Murrine GTK engine from GIT (to support the latest "Light" Ubuntu themes - by the way, we also have those in our PPA for Karmic and Jaunty, constantly updated and in sync with their release in Lucid!) so check out all our packages before proceeding.
