Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) Light Themes (Radiance and Ambiance) - click me if you haven't seen the themes yet - will probably be updated lots of times until Lucid Lynx is released. If you don't use Lucid Lynx yet, you probably still want to upgrade to the latest version of the GTK and icon themes constantly to see what's new. For this reason, we've packaged the latest "light-themes" and "ubuntu-mono" (the icon pack) in the WebUpd8 PPA and we will update them as soon as new version of these themes are released.
Before adding the PPA, there are a few things to remember:
- These theme packages in the WebUpd8 PPA are for Ubuntu Jaunty and Karmic only,
- I have not tested the themes for Jaunty so I don't know if they work correctly,
- The PPA now has the latest Murrine GTK engine from git (copied from elementaryart PPA) for easier installation in case you don't have it,
- Important: I have to remind you that there are some bleeding edge versions for some applications such as VLC 1.1.0 from GIT, gThumb 1.11.2 and so on, so add the PPA at your own risk! If you're new to WebUpd8 and don't know which packages are available in our PPA, I suggest you take a look.
Now you can go ahead and add the PPA:
- For Ubuntu Karmic
- For Ubuntu Jaunty
Then, to install the latest Murrine engine, Ubuntu Light Themes and Ubuntu Monochrome icon pack from the WebUpd8 PPA, run the following command (for both Ubuntu Jaunty and Karmic):
Then, to see if there is a new version available, run "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" every now an then ;)
Update: I've also packed the latest Humanity Icons from Lucid for Karmic and Jaunty, since "ubuntu-mono" uses some of those icons.
Now, I have a question. The "light-themes" package comes with gconf settings for putting the window controls to the left. Do you want this setting or should I remove it in future versions and so the buttons will be displayed according to your current gconf-settings?
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
- For Ubuntu Jaunty
sudo bash -c "echo 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nilarimogard/webupd8/ubuntu jaunty main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list"
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 4C9D234C
Then, to install the latest Murrine engine, Ubuntu Light Themes and Ubuntu Monochrome icon pack from the WebUpd8 PPA, run the following command (for both Ubuntu Jaunty and Karmic):
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine ubuntu-mono light-themes gtk2-engines-aurora
Then, to see if there is a new version available, run "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" every now an then ;)
