Koego: Complete Twitter and FriendFeed Statistics For Your Account

At a first look, Koego is just another free statistics service for your blog which does not impress and gives you no reason to give up Google Analytics for it. But then I discovered the Social Media stats integrated into Koego and that's when I was really impressed. Basically, Koego provides stats for your Twitter account (and FriendFeed) which inlude:

- your following / followers count each day
- people who retweet you the most
- mentions
- mentioning
- how much you tweet per time of day, day of week and so on
- the keywords and hash tags you use the most
- the clients you use the most (if you use more than 1)
- and many other

And (even tough I didn't provide any info on this) it can also be integrated into your blog / website for providing Google Analytics-like stats.

You can even integrate your Blog stats into Twitter (if you choose to enable this), which will provide a daily tweet with some stats such as best keyword, top referrer and so on:



If you use Twitter or FriendFeed on a daily basis, Koego is a must!

Gwibber 2.0 Prototype Released

Gwibber is an open source microblogging framework and desktop client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK+. The Gwibber backend is a stand-alone daemon that manages updates and retrieves stream data from social networks.

Gwibber currently has support for the following services:

* Twitter
* Identi.ca/Laconi.ca
* FriendFeed
* Facebook
* Jaiku
* Digg
* Flickr
* BrightKite
* Qaiku
* OpenCollaboration (Experimental)

New in version 2.0:

-simple account configuration wizard
-a drop down menu replaces the previous versions tab bar for navigating to replies, etc (in normal mode)
-support for more accounts
-many other additions, improvements and bug fixes

The latest version of Gwibber, 2.0 prototype, is only available in the Gwibber daily PPA. To install it in Ubuntu, open a terminal and run the following commands:

sudo sh -c "echo 'deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/gwibber-daily/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main' >> /etc/apt/sources.list"

You can replace "jaunty" with your Ubuntu version.

Then add the GPG key:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 72D340A3

And finally, you can install Gwibber:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gwibber

If you have an older version of Gwibber installed, instead of the above command, run:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Facebook Acquires FriendFeed

Huge news in the world of social media today: Facebook has acquired online activity aggregator FriendFeed. According to the release, “all FriendFeed employees will join Facebook and FriendFeed’s four founders will hold senior roles on Facebook’s engineering and product teams.”

To-date, FriendFeed has served as an inspiration for many Facebook features (to say the least), adding the ability for users to import activities from third party services like YouTube, Flickr, and Del.icio.us, plus features like the ability to comment and “like” items in the feed.

However, though much-hyped in early adopter circles, traffic at FriendFeed has remained more or less flat this year, while Facebook and Twitter have exploded in popularity.
