TagPlayer Adds Ubuntu Sound Menu, Multimedia Keys Support

TagPlayer

Wow, that's a lot of applications that were updated this week. The latest one: TagPlayer.

TagPlayer is a very simple music player that plays your local music by using its Last.fm tags. The most important new feature in the latest version (0.2.06) is Ubuntu Sound Menu support. This means the AppIndicator is no longer available but if you want it back, submit a bug and Filipe, the TagPlayer developer might add it back (as an optional feature).

Other features in the latest TagPlayer 0.2.06 are: multimedia keys support and a search box. Further more, TagPlayer is now faster and more stable.

The next release will probably bring multiple library locations but possibly other features too - if you want a feature in TagPlayer, submit a bug @ Launchpad and I'm sure Felipe will consider it and try to implement it (I've suggested 2 features and both were implemented). The same goes for any bugs you may find.

Install TagPlayer in Ubuntu

TagPlayer is available for Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 and 11.04. Add the PPA and install TagPlayer using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hikibi/tagplayer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tagplayer

You can also download a TagPlayer .deb and manually install it - see the TagPlayer download page.

TagPlayer Gets NotifyOSD Support, AppIndicator

TagPlayer

A new version of TagPlayer, a Linux music player plays your local music by using its Last.fm tags, was released today.

This version adds NotifyOSD notifications on track change and Ubuntu AppIndicator support. The current appindicator icon is not TagPlayer's icon but the appindicator isn't here to stay anyway as TagPlayer will soon get Ubuntu Sound Menu integration.

Install TagPlayer

To add the TagPlayer PPA and install it in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hikibi/tagplayer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tagplayer
For other Ubuntu versions, download TagPlayer (.deb) from its Launchpad page.

If you find any bugs, please report them @ Launchpad.

TagPlayer: Play Local Music Based On Its Last.fm Tags

Tagplayer

Wouldn't it be great if you could tune into your local music like you do with the Last.fm radio? TagPlayer, a new Linux music player does just that: it plays your local music by using its Last.fm tags.

The player is very simple and easy to use: select your music folder, enter your Last.fm username and password, select a tag (or more - hold down the Ctrl key to select more tags) and click play. That's basically where its feature list ends but there are a couple of thins worth mentioning: the songs you listen to are scrobbled to Last.fm; if you want to find out the currently playing song, click the info icon in the bottom left corner of TagPlayer's main window.

Considering its purpose, you can't really say TagPlayer is missing any features, however it would be nice if it would get NotifyOSD notifications as well as an AppIndicator. But TagPlayer is very new (the first public version was released last week) so it might get these features soon.

Install TagPlayer in Ubuntu

To add the TagPlayer PPA and install it in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hikibi/tagplayer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tagplayer

Alternatively, you can download the TagPlayer Ubuntu .deb (as well as the source code) from Launchpad (I've only tested it in Ubuntu 10.10 so I'm not sure if the .deb will work in older Ubuntu versions).

TagPlayer is still in alpha so you may find bugs! Report them @ Launchpad.
