Haguichi (Hamachi GUI) 1.0.7 Gets AppIndicator Support

Haguichi

Haguichi is a popular Hamachi (including Hamachi2) GUI for Gnome.

Haguichi 1.0.7 has been released, the big news being that it finally adds AppIndicator support so you don't need to tweak the notification area in Ubuntu 11.04 to get Hamachi to show up (but of course, the AppIndicator works in older Ubuntu versions too).

As usual, I've updated the Haguichi PPA (this is basically the official PPA) so you can easily stay up to date with new versions in Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 and 11.04.

Please note that the Haguichi AppIndicator comes as a separate package!

Add the Haguichi PPA and install Haguichi using the commands below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/haguichi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install haguichi

To install the Haguichi AppIndicator, run the command below:
sudo apt-get install haguichi-appindicator

Haguichi (Hamachi GUI) Reaches Version 1.0.5

Haguichi 1.0.5

Haguichi, a GUI for Hamachi (including Hamachi2) has reached version 1.0.5. Here's the complete changelog:
  • Nickname is now being remembered by Haguichi itself and is always set after each login, because Hamachi² seems to suffer from amnesia.
  • Now using regular expressions instead of splitting strings when parsing the network list (Fixes bug #706567).
  • Now using separate threads for the following actions: change nickname, jJoin network, create network, change network password, approve join request, reject join request, evict member, leave network, delete network
  • Added notification for when Hamachi loses connection.
  • Added option to manually update the network list.
  • Added check to prevent multiple parallel update cycles.
  • Added one seconds pause after login to receive a more updated network list from Hamachi.
  • Added function to determine the distro specific script directory to use (Fixes bug #721314).
  • Dialogs to change nick, join network and create network are now only created when called upon.
  • Attached all dialogs to the opening parent and made most of them modal.
  • Changed status icon behavior to take account for modal dialogs.
  • Other minor fixes, improvements and optimizations.

As you probably know by now, we are maintaining the official Haguichi PPA so you can already install the latest Haguichi 1.0.5 in Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 or 11.04 using the commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/haguichi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install haguichi

For other Linux distributions, check out the Haguichi download page.

If you encounter any bugs, report them @ Haguichi Launchpad page.

Haguichi 1.0.3 (Hamachi GUI) Has Been Released

Haguichi
(New Haguichi icon for Elementary Dark panel)

Haguichi is a Hamachi and Hamachi2 GUI for Gnome.

"Hamachi establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network." So it's like a LAN over the internet which you can use to browse shares or play games that only work on LAN (among others). We've covered Haguichi quite a few times so read our previous posts for more info.

A new Haguichi version (1.0.3) has been released today which adds theme specific panel icons for Humanity, Ambiance, Radiance, Elementary and Elementary Dark.

Here's the complete Haguichi 1.0.3 changelog:
  • Added theme specific panel icons for Humanity, Ambiance, Radiance,
  • Elementary and Elementary Dark
  • All pixmaps are now themable icons
  • Removed gnome-sharp as dependency because the functionality used is
  • also present in gtk-sharp
  • Updated ownership detection for Hamachi 0.9.9.9-20 because the server
  • response seems to have changed
  • Removed maximum length from password entry in join network, create
  • network and change password dialogs
  • Spanish translation update

To install the latest Haguichi 1.0.3 in Ubuntu, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/haguichi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install haguichi

For other Linux distributions, visit the Haguichi website. Info on installing Hamachi / Hamachi 2 on Linux.

Install Hamachi2 And Haguichi (GUI For Hamachi, Now Available In A PPA) In Ubuntu

Haguichi Hamachi2 GUI Ubuntu

Firstly, an introduction so you'll know what this is about:
  • Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private network (VPN) application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases); in other words, it establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network.
  • Haguichi provides a graphical frontend for Hamachi on Linux that integrates smoothly into your GNOME desktop.

A while back, Stephen Brandt, the Haguichi developer asked me to create a PPA for Haguichi and while Haguichi provides .deb files to download at its website, they are packaged using Checkinstall so the actual package wasn't debianized. Well, I finally managed to properly package Haguichi and I've uploaded it to a PPA of its own (currently available for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat), which you can add and then install Haguichi using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/haguichi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install haguichi

Since Haguichi obviously needs Hamachi, you'll have to install it. The latest version, "Hamachi 2" 2.0.0.12 is available as a beta version for Linux and comes with a .deb files so it's very easy to install. Download Hamachi 2 .deb

Important: Once you install Hamachi2, you'll have to log out and log back it or else Haguichi will not be able to connect to Hamachi2.

Once you've installed both Hamachi2 and Haguichi, you can finally open Haguichi by going to Applications > Internet > Haguichi.

Haguichi 1.0 (Hamachi GUI For GNOME) Adds Support For Hamachi²

Haguichi 1.0

Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private network (VPN) application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases); in other words, it establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network. - via Wikipedia.

Haguichi, the best Hamachi GUI for the GNOME Desktop reached version 1.0. The major new feature is that Haguichi supports the new Hamachi² Beta for Linux. The Hamachi² support includes:

  • Managing access to your Hamachi² network (setting password, lock and approval method)
  • Sending join requests to when a network requires manual approval of your membership
  • Support for long nicknames (> 25 characters) of members in your list

A complete changelog for Haguichi 1.0 can be found HERE.

What, you didn't know there is a new LogMeIn Hamachi² for Linux? Well, there is and you can download it from HERE. But as you would expect, it's command line only so use Haguichi for a GUI!

If you want to install the old Hamachi version, there's a script we translated a while back.

Download Haguichi 1.0 (includes Ubuntu .deb, openSUSE and Fedora .rpm)

Many thanks to Stephen Brandt for the tip and great application!

Haguichi: Nice Hamachi GUI That Integrates Into The GNOME Desktop

haguichi screenshot

A few days ago we posted an update to the script that installs Hamachi and 2 alternative GUIs in Linux, but the graphical user interfaces in that script don't integrate too well into the GNOME desktop.

But I've just discovered Haguichi and I recommend you give it a try. The first public release was launched just a few days ago but it's already very usable.

Before using it, make sure you have Hamachi installed (try our script which does everything automatically!).

Script To Install Hamachi With GUI In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx Or Older

install hamachi script ubuntu

Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private network (VPN) shareware application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases); in other words, it establishes a connection over the Internet that emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network.

Update: a much easier way to do this is to use Haguichi, a GUI for Hamachi and Hamachi2 for Linux (includes a PPA).

A while back we translated a script which installs Hamachi in Ubuntu and also allows you to chose between two different graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for Hamachi. The script only worked for Ubuntu Hardy, Gutsy, Intrepid, Jaunty and Karmic but today I updated it to support Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

Usually you'd have to compile Hamachi yourself, download and install a GUI for it and so on but using this script, everything is done automatically.

To use the script, simply paste this in a terminal:

wget http://webupd8.googlecode.com/files/hamachi-install-ubuntu-1.0.2 && chmod +x hamachi-install-ubuntu-1.0.2
./hamachi-install-ubuntu-1.0.2

Remember! It's not recommended running a script before taking a look at the code!

Then chose between the options: install Hamachi (required obviously) and once Hamachi is installed, also chose to install a GUI (options 2 and 3). I recommend option "3" (featured in the screenshot below):

hamachi gui ubuntu

Once everything is done, log out and log back in or else Hamachi will not work!

Update: a much easier way to do this is to use Haguichi, a GUI for Hamachi and Hamachi2 for Linux (includes a PPA).

Credits for the initial script: PortalUbuntu (you can also download a Spanish version of the script from PortalUbuntu, but it has not been updated for the latest Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx).

Install Hamachi + GUI In Linux, Using A Script

Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private network (VPN) application capable of establishing direct links between computers that are behind NAT firewalls without requiring reconfiguration (in most cases); in other words, it establishes a connection over the Internet that very closely emulates the connection that would exist if the computers were connected over a local area network.

Update: a much easier way to do this is to use Haguichi, a GUI for Hamachi and Hamachi2 for Linux (includes a PPA).

Installing Hamachi in Linux is not that easy. Well, it is but it's a lot easier using a script for it, which will also allow you to install a GUI (graphical user interface) for Hamachi. Actually, you can choose from 2 GUIs.

But before I begin, I must say that all the credits for this script go to Soker @ portalubuntu. I just translated the script from Spanish to English (and I didn't do a very good job at it, but it should be enough to understand how to use it).

Using the script to install Hamachi and Hamachi graphical user interface

After downloading the script (download link at the end of the post), simply right click it, on the "Permissions" tab, check the "Allow execution of this file as program" box. Then open a terminal, navigate to where you downloaded the script and type:
./hamachi-ubuntu-1.0.2

Then just follow the on-screen instructions. The script will firstly need to install some packages before installing Hamachi. When it's ready, you'll reach a screen like this:

hamachi script

Then, simply enter "1" to install Hamachi, then "2" or "3" to install a GUI for Hamachi. Recommended is "3" (Hamachi-GUI).

Here are 2 screenshots - the first with gHamachi and the second with Hamachi-gui:

gHamachi LinuxHamachi-gui linux

Download the script in: English | Spanish

Update: I updated the script in English to support Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. The one in Spanish doesn't yet support the latest Ubuntu 10.04!

Update 2: a much easier way to do this is to use Haguichi, a GUI for Hamachi and Hamachi2 for Linux (includes a PPA).

Hamachi² Released With New Web-Based Management

hamachi 2

Hamachi, the easy to use Virtual Private Network application, was updated to version 2 (Hamachi²), bringing a lot of improvements, the most notable being web-based management which can be used to create networks on demand through your LogMeIn account. Another important change is the redesigned GUI.

How Hamachi works:

You'll create a virtual network one time, then join all your devices to that network using a secure key. Hamachi installs a virtual Ethernet adapter on your computer, and uses this to communicate with your virtual network. After signing in, there's really nothing left to do - Hamachi's zero-configuration standard means you shouldn't need to adjust your router or firewall settings at all.

You can download the latest version of Hamachi from HERE.

Please note that Hamachi is only free for non-commercial use.
